Accessible and Inclusive Drinking Fountains
Drinking fountains linked to accessible pedestrian routes must be designed and placed so that people of varying abilities can approach and use them comfortably. By following specific height, clearance, and operational guidelines, cities can offer equitable access to fresh water in public spaces.

- Ensure fountains have spouts between 80 cm and 90 cm in height, with unobstructed clearance underneath of at least 70 cm.
- Equip fountains with low-effort faucets that can be operated with a fist or elbow.
- Design a surrounding area with a 1.50-meter diameter clear space free of obstacles, ensuring safety and maneuverability.
- This space must not overlap with the accessible pedestrian route, ensuring safe maneuverability.
- Design the fountain to prevent water accumulation, promoting cleanliness and reducing slip hazards.
