Sinks for Different User Needs
To ensure that the washbasin is accessible to people of all abilities, it is essential to consider the dimensions and placement of the sink, faucet, and other fixtures. These recommendations are based on ergonomic principles and accessibility standards, designed to make the washbasin easy to use for everyone, including individuals who use wheelchairs or have difficulty reaching certain areas.
Handwashing stations should be thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of a diverse range of users, including those with disabilities, children, and individuals who follow specific cultural hygiene practices. Accessibility is key, with sinks positioned at appropriate heights and sufficient clearance for wheelchair users. Intuitive faucet designs, such as sensor-based or lever-operated models, enhance usability for individuals with limited dexterity. Soap dispensers and hand dryers should be placed at accessible heights to reduce strain and increase convenience.
To further promote inclusivity, facilities should also incorporate foot-washing stations and mirrors positioned to accommodate users of all heights. These thoughtful design features create a functional, comfortable, and accessible environment for everyone.

- Sink Dimensions: 60 cm wide x 70 cm deep, with an upper height of 85 cm.
- Clearance for Wheelchair Users: 70 cm of free height underneath and a minimum of 50 cm knee clearance.
- Faucets: Easy-to-use, either sensor-operated or lever-controlled, positioned 46 cm from the sink edge.
- Thermal Safety: Pipes below the sink are thermally insulated to prevent burns in insensitive areas.
- Mirrors: Installed at multiple heights, with the lower edge below 90 cm to accommodate all users.
- Soap Dispensers & Hand Dryers: Placed at a height of 85-120 cm and positioned 100 cm from the sink’s center.
- Cultural & Religious Accessibility: Dedicated washing stations, such as foot-washing basins, positioned at a comfortable height.
- Electrical Mechanisms & Accessories: Installed at 85-120 cm in height and 100 cm from the sink axis for accessibility.
